My name is Jerilynn Henrikson and I Write Books

As a retired English teacher, I have always loved teaching, telling, reading, watching, and writing stories.  I have written as long as I can remember.  To date, I have published nine books for kids and one for adults. I have recently finished a series of early readers about Joe and his adventures with gardening. My work reflects my sense of humor, love of words, and joy for life.

I find inspiration in the rolling hills of East Central Kansas. And inspiration is exactly the right word, for this is a place of deep breaths. The wide expanses of grass and sky will invite any visitor to breathe the fragrant air as they watch drifting clouds, count wildflowers, and whistle with the meadowlarks.

As a student of history and language, I have enjoyed travelling to many beautiful places through books and by boat, but for me the best part of any journey is returning to this place I love most, to my wondrous family and cozy home on the prairie. Come visit. We are halfway to everywhere!

I love talking to classrooms of kids, or clubs and service organizations.

My name is Duane Henrikson and I Take Photographs

I was born and raised in Emporia, Kansas.  I was lucky enough to attend school in Emporia where I made many wonderful lifelong friends, including my wife, Jerilynn,  of 54 years. During my high school years I worked at my father’s veterinary clinic but grew tired of cleaning kennels and wanted a real job. I found work as a farm hand southwest of Emporia. It was during this seven years I became fond of the farming community. I also grew to appreciate the rewarding work of producing crops and tending animals. I learned to love the many wonders of nature and decided that a career in veterinary medicine would allow me to serve that community while enjoying my profession.

After graduating from Emporia High School in 1961, I attended Kansas State University and was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated from KSU with a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I served 2 years in the Air Force stationed at the School of Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio, TX.

Jerilynn and I moved back to Emporia to join my father’s veterinary practice where I worked for 44 years before retiring. We lived in the country west of town where we raised our 4 kids, enjoying their participation in 4-H, school activities, and sports. In retirement I enjoy travel, gardening, woodworking, and photography. Both of us take great joy in our 7 grandchildren.
